Fluidic spa jets give a luxury massage with no moving parts
Since opening its first manufacturing facility in Costa Mesa, California in 1979, Sundance Spas has grown to become the world's largest manufacturer and distributor of acrylic spas. They are part of the Jacuzzi Brands portfolio.
Challenge
Sundance wanted custom spa nozzles that would simultaneously advance the state of the art for hydrotherapy AND lower warranty costs. Off-the-shelf nozzles from the standard industry suppliers provided little in the way of customized hydrotherapy or product distinction.
Custom Spa Nozzle Solution
Bowles Fluidics worked with our customer to understand and quantify the characteristics that make a massaging nozzle desirable to the end user. Nozzles had to operate at low frequencies, feel great, and entrain large quantities of air. We instrumented a spa provided by Sundance and tested both CNC machined samples and rapid prototypes. Working with our customer, we were then able to deliver oscillating multimode nozzles that provided a satisfying spa experience with no moving parts needed. This provided unique, tailored hydrotherapy and a drastic decrease in warranty claims. Together, Bowles and Sundance have developed five different jets (four Fluidix jets in the Sundance line and Jacuzzi's BX jet), as well as a high-efficiency ozone injector.
